The twenty-first century has been a time of increasing power and independence for American women. From the start of the year 2000 to now, women have become progressively more involved in the previously male-dominated worlds of politics, business, education and philanthropy. Women of the twenty-first century continually create “firsts” as they take on governmental positions and leadership roles that were, just decades ago, unavailable to them. Struggles for equality remain, with goals to break glass ceilings and to maintain the rights women gained in previous centuries. Women of the twenty-first century will blaze forward into the future creating positive change and progress as they go.
